Not quite a text book--maybe a reference

The book was, in my opinion, not the most helpful introduction to the subject. The book is full of equations--it really is a masterpiece when one wants to "read" a book that will impress people around who know nothing about math(like the hot girl/guy in the seat next to you, who is looking over your shoulder ;-)). The unfortunate part is that the author does not really explain anything he is doing. The book does not give any real details or in depth explanations--just formula after formula. I can follow the formulas--that is not the problem--but the lack of statements introducing the methods, explaining the concepts, and leading the reader to understand the material on an all new level is lacking in my opinion. I like to understand the "why" and the "how" of the physical/application side--not just the mathematical formulas(although--if one works through the math, one will eventually figure something out). I was a little disappointed in the book. There are also multiple annoying typos, and spelling mistakes. In summary--the author is a smart guy--he knows the subject--unfortunately, he seems to have forgotten the hardships he had when learning the method. The book should be advertised as a "compliment reference" to a course where a prof would explain the method and ideas--not a great book to pick off the shelf and try to learn BEM by oneself!

This is an useful tool for your board exam prep. This helps you figure out whether you are ready for the boards or whether you need to sit down and do some more reading before you dig into your wallet to pay yet another hefty exam fee !

Makes my own convictions stronger

Throughout this text are inconsistencies and numerous incorrect explanations. I am not sure if it is just the authors interpreation of the texts, or just the authors tendency to take concepts verbatim from the resources but I had to double check many specious claims that I knew to be false, especially from the child neurology section. At least it is forcing me to read the reference texts, to double check the information for the questionable explanations. As a whole, it is complete and probably a little more esoteric than I will need, but I would rather over-study than under-study. Not sure if I would buy it again, hopefully, I won't have to.

This is not a textbook and not intended to be one. It is a collection of board-type questions with lenghty explanations. I found it quite useful to test myself 2 months before I took the boards to discover my strenghts and weaknesses. There are many spelling mistakes and some inconsistencies, so it certainly would not hurt if the authors could review their book once more.

Martin's descendants are covered at great length, and the major allied families of Ehresmann, Fischbach/Fishback, Heimbach, Knieling/Kneiling, Moore, Otterbach/Utterback, Richter/Rector, Stuell/Still, Turner, Wendling, and Zachmann are covered to at least three generations in the appendix.
