On the recommendation of a coworker, I bought this and used it as a reference during application season. Thanks to it, a lot of online forum reading, the Manhattan GMAT study guides, and advice from several mentors, I was accepted into every program that I applied to and just finished my first day at Wharton. As mentioned time and time again in the book, it won't tell you exactly how to fill out your applications or what to write in your essays, but it offers a road map that others have used to gain acceptance. By the time I hit my final "Submit Application" button, I had dog earned about half of the pages in my copy of the book and viewed it as an incredibly integral part of my application success stories.

Worth it's weight in gold

If you were looking for from this book is a secret that will help you get over any potential hurdles you face (or have already made) this book probably ain't for you. There are no secrets in (nor does the author claim there to be) this book just demystifies and puts into context the application process at top universities, its very broad. The insights from deans of admissions from top schools are also tremendously useful. So many people rule themselves out before the ever stand and this books really helps you guage if not your chances, but your potential. Great buy.

Not so much Carzy, as Awesome

The book is amazing. I read it in sixth grade and tell as many people as I can about it. It's a book about how amazing the English language is that is written for people who think that the phrase "it's a book about how amazing the English language is" is about the most ludicrous thing ever said. It also is for grammarphiles and verbivores as well. Must read.

As for the condition of the particular book I wrote, it was exactly as advertised. Thanks!

Crazy and Beautiful !

An interesting passage from the book -

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend. If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?

If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all.

That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

Highly interesting and amusing commentary about our language

Ever pick up a book to look up a fact or check your knowledge on something, and wind up losing track of time? I do that with this book far too often . . . and I never regret it. You can use "Crazy English" as a reference if you like, but what author Richard Lederer does best is make you chuckle at all the oddities of the English language.
This book is literally (ha!) packed with word origins, semantics, "confused" phrases, funny figures of speech, and even categories of words I didn't even know had a name (the "nyms"). The chapter about the doctor who speaks only in palindromes is a classic. Lederer's wit plays right into the theme of the book, and I would bet he had as much fun writing it as I have reading it. No need to start at the beginning; just open to any page and bounce around. It's all great fun, and easy reading.

Mind-blowing H-O-T!

Whew! Check out the guy on this cover. He is HOT!!!

ALPHA ROMEOS is what I call creative, original, and STIMULATING. Not necessarily an erotic romance, it is definitely one intense and highly EROTIC adventure! Erotic romance authors, Rhyannon Byrd and Madison Hayes, both know exactly how to turn up the HEAT!

Warrick and Dye were some of my favorite MH characters in the book, KINGDOM OF KHAL: REDEEMING DAVIK, and I was so thrilled to see them as key players in this story. Colin, however, was an unfamiliar character to me. (I hadn't read RB's Magick Men series). Yet while reading this book I couldn't help but fall in love with him. By the end of the story, I actually wanted him for my own!

This book is really one of the better erotic reads I've read in a long time. The sex is amazing--descriptive and very creative! I love the provocative dialogue, too. The crude language may offend some readers, but I love it! It's stimulating and NOT forced or contrived. In addition, the story is well-plotted. There is great action (with two unexpected, but fierce fighting sequences), good pacing, and a very captivating storyline.

I found it to be a very enjoyable read for the most part, (i.e., until towards the end, after that really engaging battle scene with "the glob"!). Though very sweet the added romance didn't do it for me. I wish more time was spent on Warrick's "romantic" relationship with one of the enchanted sisters. The romance felt cheated and the sex scenes were lukewarm at best--nothing compared to the earlier ones in the story!

Nevertheless, I still had so much fun reading this book. These "Alpha Romeos" are totally unforgettable. They are a hilarious bunch--not to mention sexy, charming, and oh so lovable. When I finished the story, I didn't want to let them go!

One of the most incredibly original tales I've ever read. Clever, smart, fun and sexy. Three heroes set out to release five enchanted sisters from curses of eternal celibacy and thereby save the universe. On the way, Warrik gets a renewed subscription to life AND wins the gift of everlasting head.

Involves characters from Rhyannon Byrd's Magick Men Series and Madison Hayes' Kingdom Series.

Warrik is dead. And he wants his life back. To do so, he must free the
five imprisoned half-sisters of the goddess, Andarta, and gain
something from each one to fulfill the list of items he must collect.
But he needs help with this very mysterious scavenger hunt. Who better
to drag into this unlikely quest than the man who gave the orders that
ended his life in the first place?

Dye thinks he's hallucinating when Warrik appears before him. Damn, the
man was dead, wasn't he? But he soon realizes that he has no choice but
to join Warrik on this mission. To entangle things further, by
Andarta's orders, the two warriors force a third to aid them; Colin
McKendrick, a Scotsman who is willing to help just to regain his
freedom from his prison of solitude.

The three unlikely allies each have their own strengths and weaknesses.
And each will be tested while they unravel the clues to free the
sisters. For each sister is cursed, and the curses must be lifted, one
by one, to free them. The journey is one of pure eroticism, because
each curse to be broken involves sex. Hot, delicious
bring-a-man-to-his-knees sex. Are the Alpha Romeos up to the task?

Alpha Romeos is pure, magical delight. I alternated between amusement
and lust as I enthusiastically read though the pages. The three heroes
are from different series of each writer. Colin McKendrick is from Ms.
Byrd's Magick Men series, while Warrik and Dye come from Ms. Hayes'
Kingdom Heroes. The sharp and witty banter between the three men sent
me into fits of laughter throughout the story. The male one-upmanship
was thoroughly amusing, to say the least.

But the heat! Oh my, the heat! These three men were definite Romeos and
it became clear rather quickly why they were chosen for this very
special quest. The sensual scenes and amusing wordplay blended together
to weave an engrossing story that I could not put down. I can't
recommend this book enough. Alpha Romeos, with its enchanting curses
and even more enchanting heroes, is an enthralling read that will keep
a smile on your face long after you've finished the final page.

Excellent book.

5 complete songs are included, the rest are excerpts .Thankfully this not not a rehash of other books and Chad Johnson covers a wide span of Mr Ford's wonderful career.The book looks well set out.my only gripe is the backing tracks for the full songs....you are provided 4 small segments of the tracks and then wait for it a full track with all the guitars included but NO FULL BACKING TRACK without guitars. This makes no sense at all....Why a full track without the guitars included is omitted is nonsensical. This would surely be essential once you learn the song in its entirety. I have to say this could have been a much better book if they included the backing tracks...Hopefully Hal Leonard can rectify this problem. I have purchased other books by Chad Johnson and they are all very good as is this particular book. I would give this 10 stars if it had the full backing tracks.
