Well worth the price

I bought this book because, when I moved a few years back, I threw away most of my computing books; including my two DOS books. I didn't miss them until I started playing with Java and wanted to write a couple of batch files. Getting to the command prompt was no problem but I couldn't remember the various DOS commands and switches. While you can list all those by using the "help" command in the DOS window, there are no real instructions on how to use them. I found what I needed in this book.
If you're looking for a DOS instruction manual like the old Peter Norton books, this isn't it. And, the author doesn't claim it to be such. It is, however, sufficient to get you started or serve as a reminder for those of us who've simply forgotten how to use these very useful commands.
All in all, Moeller has written a useful book that is more than well worth its $0.99 price.

Good Enough For Beginners

This book is for beginners. It tells you how to open the command prompt and guides you into using some useful apps.

I use some of these apps on an occassional basis. Basically, I have to relearn the process every time I use them. Which is where this book gets a 4-star rating. It's for those new using the command line or those that need an occassional refresher. This book doesn't seem to be intended as a sole reference for command line users, but serves as a good starting point since it's simple.

This book covers a range of topics from file management to networking. As a beginner book it introduces you to the tool by showing some practical uses but don't expect it to get too comprehensive or complex.

Great guide for beginners!

I rarely write reviews. However, I felt that the current reviews don't give this book justice. It is for absolute beginners that are clueless on many command line issues. It goes into basic details on many topics, it is an easy read, and it is incredibly cheap ($0.99 at the time of my purchase). It also provides a brief history of the topics that the book discusses in order to give the reader a better understanding of how some of the Windows conventions have come to be. Overall, this book has helped me very much on my journey to become a proficient programmer.

It truly is Something Wonderful!

M. Clarke has done it once again! Something Wonderful is an amazing follow up to Something Great. Not only do we have we get to see how Max and Jeanella are doing, but we also get to see Max's yummy brother, Matt as struggles with and accepts his feelings for Becky.

The way M. Clarke intertwined the two love stories makes for a very difficult to put down read and what made it really shine in a market with so many NA reads. We get to see how Jeanella's youthful innocence impacts her relationship in both positive and negative ways at the same time we get to see how the tragedy that forced Becky in many ways "grow up" impacted hers. Of course there is the added bonus of the two super hot Knight boys.

I do not recommend reading this book without reading Something Great.You can probably catch on to the story pretty quickly, but the underlying emotions that rule their decisions and actions will be missing. I keep going back and forth on whether or not I like this one or book one better. I am going to deem it a tie. I will say that the book begins with a heart crushing scene that will leave you bawling, but I promise you it is all uphill from there.

Something wonderful is sweet, hot, emotional, fun, and well written. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series!

ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER!!!!

I certainly would have rated this higher had it not been a cliffhanger. THE NEXT BOOK ISN'T OUT UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST!!!! It's unfortunate because it's a good book with captivating characters. Is it not possible for an author to COMPLETE the ENTIRE book and then release it piecemeal, maybe in one month intervals? These cliffhangers seem to be the norm and, in truth, are detrimental to the flow of the story. By August, I won't remember this book nor will I care about it. There have been so many books that I've loved whose epilogues have become anticlimactic when they're finally released.......just another one to add to that list.

Just when I was sure that the extraordinary story in Something Great couldn't possibly get any better, here comes Something Wonderful rushing in behind it to completely obliterate that careless thought. I am left speechless and breathless in the wake of this sweeping and staggering romance that will shatter your finest daydreams and leave them envious of the passion and exquisiteness found within the pages of this tour de force.

Becky and Jenna have been roommates since college. They have been left battered and scared from the trials that they have had to face, and yet they still yearn for what all women need - to be wanted, to be loved, and to be cherished. They find everything that they could ever need and want standing in front of them in the form of Matthew and Maxwell Knight, and yet they can't help but push them away seeing them as a mirage of the deepest longings of their heart and soul. However, these two men must learn to battle their own fears and hurts if they are to open the eyes of the women who have already claimed their hearts to the unstoppable force and passionate depth of their love and devotion for them. What begins as a whirlwind romance will end up as a no-holds-barred-I-am-in-this-for-life pursuit for their hearts. In the end, one will have to pass the ultimate test of her character while the other will have to choose whether or not to surrender her heart to a love that only appears once in a lifetime.

I was utterly in awe as I watched the stunning metamorphosis of not just one but two beautiful women who deserved only the best but instead were handed its leftovers. Becky and Jenna couldn't be more different from the other, but they have come to form a strong and powerful bond of friendship over the years. It is this bond that allows them to open up and honestly help the other begin to heal and to learn that who they are is not even close to who they want to be. Through a compassionate act of fate, they are both given a glimpse of what they could have in the pure love and fierce passion that Max and Matthew Knight shower them with. Becky fights her feelings for Matthew for fear of further damage to her already fragile heart while Jenna must do what she fears the most in order to claim Max before she loses him forever.

Max and Matthew have their own battles to face in this journey before they can begin to heal the women they love. They too have to decide how much they are willing to risk to keep the women they can't live without from disappearing from their lives forever. Will Matthew be able to recover his stolen heart before it's too late, or will he surrender it completely and claim Becky's at the same time? Is Max ready to watch his forever with Jenna drown in a sea of secrets, or will he conquer his demons and claim the only woman who has made him think of the future?

This is one love story that will melt any heart of stone and make you see the virtue in living life feeling with your heart instead of thinking with your head. The love expressed in the pages of this book is both exhilarating and aggressive. It is not one to be taken lightly, and it is one that will stay with you for a very long time. If you ever find a love like this in your life, I advice that you hold on tight and do all that you can to never let it go. Do not allow yourself to live with the regrets of what ifs that will slowly empty your heart and cause it to grow bitter with want and need. Never would have thought

I am going to have to agree with one of the other reviews...when I saw the cover of the both I wasn't that impressed. I read the back of the book and it looked as if it would interest me so I decided to give it a try. Once I got started I could not put it down. Flower went through a lot at a very young age. I could not even imagine myself, let alone my daughter or anyone else's daughter, sister, friend or cousin going through that. Not to tell the story but if you haven't read this book, what are you waiting for????

I read your book Flower's Bed and all I can say is Wow! that was a very good book I was so into it I couldn't stop reading it. The book made me Happy !!!!! sad and Mad. It is a must read !!!

His life marked by debt, syphilis, alcohol, opium, mistresses and cheap hotels, French poet Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) exemplifies the figure of the modern artist as a rebel against bourgeois society. This careful, exhaustively researched biography lacks verve and is nearly devoid of literary criticism, but as a record of the poet's day-to-day existence it will prove valuable to scholars. Professor at the Sorbonne and at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, Pichois suggests that Baudelaire made himself economically dependent on his mother in order to re-create his childhood and compete with his hated stepfather. We see Baudelaire as rebellious schoolboy, deliberately eccentric bohemian, anarchistic political journalist, unlucky collector of old paintings and, in a dramatic courtroom chapter, as convicted offender of public morality (fined for his now-classic Fleurs du Mal ). Pichois brings to his biography of Baudelaire a full mastery of all that pertains to the life and works of this 19th-century French poet. His is thus the most thorough biography of Baudelaire in English to date. One only wishes that Pichois's profound familiarity with Baudelaire's writings (he edited the prestigious Pleiade edition of the complete works and correspondence of Baudelaire) and with past and current scholarship on Baudelaire had resulted in a more balanced work that would have served to introduce readers, particularly the uninitiated, to the beauty of Baudelaire's writings, especially of Les Fleurs du Mal . Ultimately Baudelaire's life, as we learn here, is less interesting than his literary creation.

good reference

This is a very good reference book for laboratory animal facility managers. There is an excellent section on determining per diem rates, which is every facility manager's nightmare. My only comment would be that it could use some updating with the addition of info on disaster planning for animal facilities.

Otherwise, the book has good information and is very useful.

The "Daisy" Who Changed the World

Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low's life is a wonderful example of how you can find your passion late in life and still make a big difference in the world. She was a very talented and energetic lady, but she frittered away her early years with dilettantism and made a bad marriage that left her widowed but wealthy. It wasn't until she was over fifty that she was inspired by Sir Robert Baden-Powell to bring the Girl Guides program (later renamed Girl Scouts) to the United States. Once she'd finally found her life's purpose, she became a different woman. She was focused and unstoppable, even while battling the cancer that eventually took her life.

This book covers Juliette Gordon Low's entire life. It's full of interesting history, but the first half has almost nothing about Girl Scouts. That's not a criticism of the book, it's just the way Daisy's life unfolded. I do think I would have wanted to know that ahead of time if I'd been handed the book as a youngster. I would have grown impatient wondering when it was going to get to the part about Girl Scouts. Even as an adult I was eager to get to that part, and I enjoyed the second half more than the first.

Ginger Wadsworth has written several other books for young people, and she's also had a lifelong passion for the Girl Scout program. She's done a wonderful job with this biography. It's a must-read for anyone with a fondness for the Girl Scout organization, past and present. It's fun to compare your own experiences with those of the early Girl Scouts with regard to badges earned, service projects, and the uniforms they wore. The book has a lot of photos and copies of documents and advertisements to give you a real feeling for the era.

Juliette Gordon Low was a spirited and liberated woman way ahead of her time who set out to inspire and liberate women for generations to come. She wasn't able to have children of her own, but all of us whose lives were shaped by Girl Scouting are her girls. She really did change the world.

not for younger Scouts

First Girl Scout tells the entire life story of Juliette Gordon Low. It is a very visually pleasing book with lots of photos, nice layout, and eye catching cover. Each chapter's title is shown as a Scout badge.
This title is being advertised for ages 9 and up but I would not give this book to a child so young as we do learn about Juliette's husband having a mistress. I think because of that incident being included, the book should be reserved for middle school students and older. Although written for youth, adults will find this nearly 200 page book an enjoyable read to learn about the founder of Girl Scouts in the USA.
